Pradhan Mantri Formalisation of Micro food processing Enterprises scheme (PM-FME Scheme)

Narendra Singh Tomar inaugurates capacity building component of PM-FME Scheme

  • Union Minister for Food Processing Industries, Narendra Singh Tomar has virtually inaugurated the capacity building component of the Pradhan Mantri Formalisation of Micro food processing Enterprises scheme (PM-FME Scheme). 
  • PM-FME Scheme has been launched with an outlay of Rs 10,000 crore for a period of five years from 2020-21 to 2024-25. 
  • He also launched the GIS One District One Product (ODOP) digital map of India.

Component of the PM-FME scheme Under the capacity building :

  • The component envisages imparting training to food processing entrepreneurs, various groups, viz., self-help groups (SHGs), Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs), Co-operatives, workers, and other stakeholders associated with the implementation of the PM-FME scheme.
  • Training would be given to the master trainers through online mode, classroom lecture and demonstration, and self-paced online learning material.
  • The master trainers will then train the district-level trainers, who will eventually train the beneficiaries.

GIS ODOP digital map of India Launched:

  • It provides details of One District One Product (ODOP) products of all the states and facilitates the stakeholders to make concerted efforts for its value chain development. 
  • The digital map also has indicators for tribal, Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST), and aspirational districts.






National Milk Day : 26 November

India, is celebrated National Milk Day on 26 Nov.

  • The day celebrated since 2014, to commemorate the birthday of the father of India’s White Revolution, Dr Verghese Kurien. 
  • Dr Verghese Kurien also known as Milkman of India. 
  • The day was fixed by all the dairy majors of the country including the National Dairy Development Board, the Indian Dairy Association, along with 22 state-level milk federations
  • The significance of the Day lies in the fact that this day celebrates the importance of milk in a person’s life
  • The Indian Dairy Association, in 2014, took the initiative to celebrate this day for the first time.
  • The first National Milk Day was celebrated on 26 Nov 2014 where various milk producers from 22 states participated.

Sahakar Pragya launched by Minister of Agriculture

‘Sahakar Pragya’ was recently launched. (Recently in News)

  • Launched by: Ministry of Agriculture
  • The GoI innovative capacity building initiative have been launched for the farmers associated with such entities nationwide. 

Objective of Sahakar Pragya

  • To impart training to primary cooperative societies in rural areas (to play bigger roles in Atmanirbhar Bharat call of PM Narendra Modi.)

Key Points To Note about Sahakar Pragya

  • There will be 45 new training modules of Sahakar Pragya.
  • Farmers in primary cooperatives in rural areas would be trained by the National Cooperative Development Corporation (NCDC) 
  • Sahakar Pragya would be implemented by elaborated network of 18 Regional Training Centres (RTC) across India.
  • These RTC are run by the Haryana-based Laxmanrao Inamdar National Academy for Cooperative Research and Development (LINAC) that works under the National Cooperative Development Corporation.
  • Sahakar Pragya shall enhance NCDC’s training capacity by 18-fold through an elaborate network of 18 Regional Training Centres across the country by the dedicated LINAC set up and fully funded by NCDC.

    • India boasts a huge network of over 8.50 lakh cooperative societies with about 290 million members.

  • The name Brahmi has been derived from the word “Brahma” that means the mythical “Creator” in the Hindu pantheon. 
  • In India, it has been largely treasured as a revitalizing herb used by the Ayurvedic Medical practitioners for almost 3,000 years ago. 
  • The whole plant is used in indigenous system of medicine as a nerve tonic and for epilepsy and insanity due to being rich in Bacosides is a class of chemical compounds;

Introduction of Jal Brahmi or Water Hyssop 

  • It is an important prostrate aquatic herb 
  • belonging to the family Scrophulariaceae 
  • It is wide distributed throughout the world 
  • It is commonly found and distributed in wet or marshy habitats along the stream and river margins throughout India approximately upto 1,300 m elevation. 
  • B. monnieri (L.) Wettst. is native to India, Bangladesh and Southern Asia. 
  • There are at least 12 known members of the class known to grow under the varying soil and climatic conditions. 
  • The plant performs exceptionally well in poorly drained soils and waterlogged areas under the subtropical conditions. 
  • Near-neutral, clayey loam to clayey soils are best suited for its growth. 
  • In North India, it can grow in a wide range of temperatures (15 to 40 °C) and soil pH (5 to 7.5)
  • The plants grow faster at high temperatures (30-40 °C) and humidity (65% to 80%) and are cultivated as summer-rainy season crops in North India. 
  • Under South and Central Indian conditions, it could be cultivated round the year.

Ginger Production
  • It is obtained from the rhizomes of Zingiber officinale.
  • It is very important commercial crop grown for its aromatic rhizomes which is used both as a spices and medicine. Ginger is valued for the dried ginger spice and preserved, crystallised ginger. Ginger is a perennial plant but is usually grown as an annual for harvesting as a spice.
  • Ginger oil is obtained from the root of the herb Zingiber officinale.
Characteristics of Ginger
  • It shall be dried rhizomes of Zingiber officinale Rose, in pieces, irregular in shape, pale brown in colour.
  • Its fibrous content shall be characteristic of the variety with peel not entirely removed.
  • It shall be lime bleached.
  • It shall have characteristic taste and flavour and shall not have a musty odour or a rancid or bitter taste.
  • It shall be free from added colouring matter.
  • It shall be free from mould growth and living insects and practically free from dead insects, insect fragments and rodent contamination.
