About National Testing Agency (NTA): 

NTA is an independent, autonomous, and self-sustained testing organization established by the Ministry of Education, Government of India. It conducts efficient, transparent, and international standardized tests for admission to premier higher education institutions. It also undertakes research, dissemination, and capacity building in the field of assessment.

About Central Universities: 

Central Universities or Union Universities are established by an Act of Parliament and are under the purview of the Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education. They offer various undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programmes in different disciplines. They follow the reservation policy of the Government of India and have their own specific requirements for admission.

About CUET (UG) - 2023: 

CUET (UG) is the Common University Entrance Test for admission into all undergraduate programmes in all Central Universities for the academic session 2023-24. It is a computer-based test conducted in 13 languages across India. It provides a common platform and equal opportunities to candidates from different backgrounds and regions.

Role of NTA: 

NTA is responsible for the registration of candidates, conduct of the test, hosting of answer key, inviting challenges, finalizing answer keys, preparing and declaring result, and hosting score card for CUET (UG) - 2023. NTA does not deal with the admission process, which is handled by the respective universities based on the score card provided by NTA.

Examination Scheme: 

The examination scheme of CUET (UG) - 2023 consists of the following aspects:

  • Mode of Examination: The test will be conducted in computer-based mode only.
  • Medium of Examination: The test will be conducted in 13 languages, namely English, Hindi, Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, and Urdu. The candidates can choose the language of the question paper while filling the online application form.
  • Scheme of Examination: The test will have three sections, namely Section 1A - Languages, Section 1B - Languages, and Section 2 - Domain. The candidates can choose up to 10 subjects from all three sections. Each subject will have objective type multiple choice questions.
  • Pattern of Examination: The pattern of examination for each section is as follows:
    • Section 1A - Languages: There are 13 different languages in this section. Any of these languages may be chosen. 40 questions are to be attempted out of 50 in each language.
    • Section 1B - Languages: There are 20 languages in this section. Any of these languages may be chosen. 40 questions are to be attempted out of 50 in each language.
    • Section 2 - Domain: There are 27 domain-specific subjects in this section. A candidate may choose any subject as desired by the applicable university/universities. 35/40 questions are to be attempted out of 45/50 in each subject.
    • Section 3 - General Test: This section is for any undergraduate programme/programmes offered by universities where a general test is used for admission. 50 questions are to be attempted out of 60 in this section.
  • Tests / Subjects covered under CUET (UG) - 2023: The list of languages, domain-specific subjects, and general test covered in CUET (UG) - 2023 is given in Appendix II of the PDF.
  • Duration of Test: The duration of the test will be three hours. Compensatory time of 20 minutes per hour will be given to PwBD candidates.
  • Syllabus of Test: The syllabus of the test for each section is as follows:
    • Language: Language will be tested through reading comprehension, literary aptitude, and vocabulary.
    • Domain Subject: The syllabus for domain-specific subjects will be as per Class 12 syllabus only.
    • General Test: The syllabus for the general test will include general knowledge, current affairs, general mental ability, numerical ability, quantitative reasoning, and logical and analytical reasoning.

Eligibility: 

  • Eligibility: There is no age limit for the candidates. The candidates who have passed the class 12/equivalent examination or are appearing in 2023 irrespective of their age can appear in CUET (UG) - 2023. However, the candidates will have to fulfill the age criteria (if any) of the university/institution/organization where they are seeking admission.
  • List of Qualifying Examinations: The list of qualifying examinations for CUET (UG) - 2023 are as follows:
    • The final examination of the 10+2 system, conducted by any recognized Central/State Board.
    • Intermediate or two-year Pre-University examination conducted by a recognized Board/University.
    • Final examination of the two-year course of the Joint Services Wing of the National Defence Academy.
    • Senior Secondary School Examination conducted by the National Institute of Open Schooling with a minimum of five subjects.
    • Any Public School/Board/University examination in India or any foreign country recognized as equivalent to the 10+2 system by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU).
    • Higher Secondary Certificate Vocational Examination.
    • A Diploma recognized by AICTE or a State board of technical education of at least three years duration.
    • General Certificate Education (GCE) examination (London/Cambridge/Sri Lanka) at the Advanced (A) level.
    • High School Certificate Examination of the Cambridge University or International Baccalaureate Diploma of the International Baccalaureate Office, Geneva.
    • Candidates who have completed the Class 12 (or equivalent) examination outside India or from a Board not specified above should produce a certificate from the AIU to the effect that the examination they have passed is equivalent to the Class 12 Examination.
    • In case the Class 12 Examination is not a public examination, the candidate must have passed at least one public (Board or Pre-University) examination earlier.
  • Year of Appearance in Qualifying Examination: For the year of appearance in Class 12/equivalent examination, relevant conditions of universities/institutions (as applicable) will be applied. The candidate must ensure his/her eligibility from the website of respective universities/institutions.
  • State of Eligibility: The state of eligibility for CUET (UG) - 2023 will be determined by the state from which the candidate has passed the Class 12/equivalent examination. If a candidate has passed the Class 12/equivalent examination from more than one state, then the state of eligibility will be the state from which the candidate has passed the Class 12/equivalent examination most recently. If a candidate has passed the Class 12/equivalent examination from a school located in a foreign country, then the state of eligibility will be determined by the state of the address given in the passport of the candidate.
