  1. The Africa Rice Center (AfricaRice): Established in 1971 by 11 African countries, it is a leading pan-African rice research organization committed to improving livelihoods in Africa through strong science and effective partnerships. It is a CGIAR Research Center and an intergovernmental association of African member countries. Its membership comprises 25 countries, covering West, Central, East and North African regions .
  2. Bioversity International : Established in 1974 as the International Board for Plant Genetic Resources (IBPGR), it is an international research-for-development organization dedicated to reducing poverty and hunger while protecting natural resources in developing countries .
  3. The Center for International Forestry Research (CIFOR): Established in 1993, it is a non-profit, scientific institution that conducts research on forest and landscape management globally. CIFOR aims to improve human well-being, protect the environment, and increase equity .
  4. The International Center for Tropical Agriculture (CIAT): Established in 1967, it is an international research-for-development organization that provides innovative, science-based solutions for communities across the non-tropical dry areas. CIAT has global responsibility for the improvement of two staple foods, cassava and common bean, together with tropical forages for livestock. In Latin America and the Caribbean, it conducts research on rice as well .
  5. The International Center for Agricultural Research in the Dry Areas (ICARDA): Established in 1977, it is an international organization undertaking research-for-development. It provides innovative, science-based solutions for communities across the non-tropical dry areas. ICARDA has a global mandate for the crop development of barley, lentil, and faba bean, and serves the non-tropical dry areas for the improvement of water-use efficiency in agriculture, rangeland issues, and small-ruminant production .

The International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT): Established in 1972, it is an international organization that conducts agricultural research for rural development, headquartered in Hyderabad, India. It is a non-profit, non-political organization that conducts agricultural research for development in Asia and sub-Saharan Africa with a wide array of partners throughout the world .

The International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI): Established in 1975, it is an international agricultural research center founded to improve the understanding of national agricultural and food policies to promote the adoption of innovations in agricultural technology. It is headquartered in Washington, DC, United States .

The International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA): Established in 1967, it is an international non-profit research-for-development organization that generates agricultural innovations to meet Africa’s most pressing challenges of hunger, malnutrition, poverty, and natural resource degradation. It is headquartered in Ibadan, Nigeria .
  9. The International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI): Established in 1994, it is an international agricultural research institute based in Nairobi, Kenya, that focuses on research to improve food security and reduce poverty in developing countries through livestock research and development.
  10. The International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center (CIMMYT): Established in 1943, it is an international non-profit research-for-development organization that develops and distributes improved maize and wheat varieties, and promotes sustainable agricultural practices to improve livelihoods in developing countries. It is headquartered in El Batán, Mexico State, Mexico.
  11. The International Potato Center (CIP): Established in 1971, it is an international research-for-development organization that focuses on potato, sweet potato, and other root and tuber crops. It is headquartered in Lima, Peru.
  12. The International Rice Research Institute (IRRI): Established in 1960, it is an international research-for-development organization that aims to reduce poverty and hunger, improve the health of rice farmers and consumers, and ensure environmental sustainability of rice farming. It is headquartered in Los Baños, Laguna, Philippines.
  13. The International Water Management Institute (IWMI): Established in 1984, it is an international research-for-development organization that focuses on sustainable use of water and land resources in developing countries. It is headquartered in Battaramulla, Sri Lanka.
  14. The World Agroforestry Centre, also known as the International Centre for Research in Agroforestry (ICRAF): Established in 1978, it is an international research-for-development organization that focuses on agroforestry research and development. It is headquartered in Nairobi, Kenya.
  15. The World Fish Center, also known as the International Center for Living Aquatic Resources Management (ICLARM)**: Established in 1977, it is an international research-for-development organization that focuses on improving the productivity, sustainability, and resilience of fisheries and aquaculture systems and enhancing the contribution of aquatic foods to global food and nutrition security.
